ELTHAM-DANDENONG TOURNAMENT COUNTDOWN

There is now less than a fortnight before the huge tournament is in action again.

The fixtures have been done and will be posted and or emailed to association, club or team contacts on Monday 11th & Tuesday 12th, to be forwarded by whatever process to team members. Please note that fixtures will not be placed on the web site until just before the tournament. In all tournaments fixture changes become necessary in the week leading up to a tournament, and it is difficult to guarantee all have noticed such changes in a vast competition, so we prefer official contact by email or phone. However the Tournament Rules will be on the web site by end Tuesday.

We ask readers to observe the new heat policy which works within new BV heat policy provisions. The long range forecast is currently encouraging about the weather during the tournament. However we are prepared if that changes.

We are delighted to again have a strong interstate representation. This includes Brisbane, The Hills (NSW), Canberra Grammar, Burnie, Launceston Tigers, South Adelaide. Southern Tigers (SA),Sturt, & Wesley College from W.A.

If any contingents playing games in the Eltham area have families with siblings looking for games, we will be pleased to note this on the web site and through our office facilitate linking them with a team. Eltham currently has vacancies in some of the domestic girls' teams.

On the Eltham side of the tournament Alicia Vengust & Darren Anderson are our visiting teams welfare officers, and will be pleased to deal with inquiries between 1pm & 6.30 pm week days (9439 5686) or via email alicia_v42@hotmail.com

Safe travelling to all,
Tournament Committee

WELCOME TO ALL PLAYERS, COACHES, ORGANISERS,
REFEREES AND SPECTATORS TO THE
ELTHAM-DANDENONG TOURNAMENT 2010

The tournament again this year has over 800 teams, with varied interstate representation. We give a special welcome to our most distant travelers.

Winning a premiership should not be the main criteria of success. Improvement of skills, teamwork, experience of a variety of opposition and greater appreciation of each other, support for others and just sheer fun can be important and worthy outcomes of a tournament.

Within this vast tournament we have most of the top teams in the Victorian metropolitan area, some very distinguished teams from interstate, and also a variety of grades in most age groups showing the depth of ability. We have also made a special effort to provide for domestic only players at whatever level.
Each individual team is important to us so a welcome to all.

As organisers we have tried to help all have an enjoyable time in a number of ways, arranging fixtures so:

  • Players from the same club can often support each other
  • More teams stay in the contest for longer by not having too many teams per grade (except where teams want to be there) and having semi finals
  • Preparing our venue staff to help you

We hope every player, referee and coach stretches his/her abilities and learns to do something better

How we react to disappointment and to the occasional inevitable unfair situation is the best test of our maturity. If people let you down, you may or may not wish to complain or discipline, but whatever you do, do it with respect and calmness

LET'S FOCUS ON WHAT WE AS INDIVIDUALS CAN CONTROL.

Enjoy the variety of opposition, the contest and
HAVE FUN

Tournament Director's Message 2010

It is with pleasure that we welcome you to the Eltham Wildcats / Dandenong Rangers Junior Tournament. This tournament celebrates the 35rd year for Eltham and the 15th year for Dandenong of the Tournament. We appreciate the support of teams, administrators, referees and parents who have travelled long distances to participate and support this great event. As with the last three years we expect to have well over 800 teams competing from under 10's to under 20's.

We welcome teams from many parts of Australia and many Victorian country areas as well as local teams from the Melbourne Metropolitan competitions. This, once again, shows the high regard that our Tournament is held in by the Australian basketball community.

We look forward to healthy and enjoyable competition in all age groups and hope that through good sportsmanship and participation everyone will have fun playing basketball over the weekend. Please let our organisers know of any assistance we can give your group.

Being one of the biggest Junior Basketball Tournaments in the world, it would not be possible without the dedication of the many volunteers who give their time to ensure its continuing success. Volunteers will staff in excess of 20 venues (around 80 courts) and others will staff Tournament offices to ensure that everything runs to schedule. We would also like to thank our many sponsors including our major sponsor, Australia Post.

Please remember the Tournament is meant to be fun. Please show sportsmanship, encourage others, and show respect for officials and we look forward to your future support of the Tournament.
